I Am From

I am from close friends and family
Let's go play catch and move our feet
Let's find some grass or find a rink
I want to win!  So let's compete

I am from the state of hockey,
Summer cabin, fish and loon
Let's hit the lakes or see the falls
Soak in the northern lights in June

I remember Rubik's Cube
Sorry, Probe and Ms. Pacman
And didn't we invent some games?
Surely don't get caught red-handed

I am from fresh garden veggies
Corn-on-the-cob with awesome taters
Lots of meat right off the grill
Am I the only onion-hater?

This get together is hot and hazy
Sweet Martha's lines are long all day
We'll hit the midway later on
We came to win, not just to play

Nieces, nephews... I'm an uncle
For me: all play, no discipline
Now they've learned all the games and sports
And I will teach them how to win

I am from late night discussion
Politics and theology
My opinion's important too
We may just have to disagree

First to Texas… oh maybe not
Whitney, Knife Edge, Chicken Ridge
Niagara… O roar again
Ruby Falls, Rock City bridge

The Pyramids and Red Square
That purple duck's been everywhere
I can find so many places
but now can't find him anywhere

It's December, let's go sledding
Shopping later? I have no doubt
All the gifts... I cannot count
But that's not what it's all about

Older now, I still love the ice
Love to play, but am not the best
If I lose… I will say little
But if I win… I will say less
